Prolom Banja is located in the south of Serbia, in the Toplicka district. It is located on the slopes of Mount Radan, at an altitude of over 600 meters, and is known for its sources of healing alkaline water. Nature spared no expense when she gifted this spa with beauty with a miraculous combination of water, air, sun and wooded areas. It is therefore justified that it is considered one of the most beautiful spa resorts in Serbia.
It is also one of the youngest spas in Serbia, although it is known that its medicinal springs were used in prehistoric times. Today it is a modern spa resort with developed effective programs for the prevention and treatment of rheumatic and skin diseases, kidney and urinary tract diseases, as well as gastroenterological diseases.
Prolom water is a unique natural alkaline water with a pH value of 8.8-9.2, which belongs to the category of sodium-hydrocarbonate, silicate, alkaline, oligomineral and hypothermal waters. With a dry residue of only 144 mg/l and high alkalinity, this water shows a pronounced diuretic and bacteriostatic effect.
Not far from Prolom Banja is Đavolja varoš, a unique nature monument with earthen figures, as a specific form of relief, which legend says are petrified wedding guests. This locality represents an exceptional geological contrast to Prolom spa - while Prolom water belongs to the most alkaline springs in Europe, Đavolja varoš has two sources of extremely acidic water: Đavolja voda with a pH value of 1.5 (one of the most acidic waters in the world) and Crveno vrelo with a pH of 3.5. Both waters have high mineralization (15 g/l and 4.4 g/l respectively) and contain aluminum, iron, copper, nickel and sulfur in concentrations 10 to 1000 times higher than drinking water. The attractiveness of this locality lies in the rare contrasts of rustic figures and endless greenery, making Devil's Town a real miracle of nature, unique in the world.
All this makes Prolom Spa an ideal place for a scientific gathering dedicated to the therapeutic potential of natural alkaline waters.
